Alison's Family Heritage Recipe Site

When I think of all of the happy memories of my life, those that were the most important to me, I think of times with family and loved ones. Those memories always have one common tie, that of food. I can remember my great grandparents visiting me when I was just a child, eating toast with butter and honey over morning devotionals in the Avion. I remember my birthdays and always having strawberry pie, the smells of Thanksgivings and Christmases surrounded by everything that is important to me- my family. These memories are as precious as gold and twice as valuable. It only takes a sniff of date pudding or a taste of apple dumplings for a flood of memories to envelope me and remind me of wonderful times.
Webster's dictionary explains heritage as "property that is or can be inherited, or something that is passed down from preceding generations- a tradition" I feel that the extended knowledge of those who have come before us is a sort of property that is handed down through the generations. Unfortunately, for most families this property becomes worn and faded. It remains only in our faint memories and thus cannot easily be shared with future generations. Food is the tie that binds generations together. Women of each generation work to perfect their little piece of this vast puzzle and I am attempting to capture it. This is why I am asking for you, family and friends, to share favorite recipes and memories with me. I am collecting them and eventually I will have a collected works that I will then share with you. In the meantime, all of the recipes that are entered will be available on this website for you to look at and use. Please feel free to share recipes from loved ones who are now gone and reference them in the "Author" field. I thank you for your help in preserving our culinary heritage.

My love to all of you, Alison
